Passenger From Darbhanga Caught With Smuggled Gold From Sharjah Worth Rs 50 Lakh At Varanasi Airport

Varanasi, March 16 (TNA) An air passenger was caught at the Varanasi airport with foreign gold worth Rs 50 lakh. The smuggled gold was hidden in the form of three balls in his rectum. The passenger has been identified as Ajay Kumar Mahato, a resident of Darbhanga, Bihar. After a long interrogation, the passenger said that he had hidden three gold balls in his rectum. Gold is in paste form in all three.

The Air Intelligence Unit of Customs recovered this foreign gold worth about Rs 49.46 lakh from a passenger who deboarded the Air India Express flight from Sharjah at Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in Babatpur, Varanasi. The seizure was made by a team of Inspectors Lekh Raj and Mukund Lal Singh of the Air Intelligence Unit of Customs.

Air intelligence officers had received information that a passenger was carrying gold hidden in his body in the form of paste. Acting based on this information, the passenger was caught at the airport itself.
