Police Encounters Not A State Policy In UP: Top Cop
Lucknow, Sep 21 (TNA) Special Director General of Police (Law & Order) Prashant Kumar has categorically denied allegations from certain quarters of the society and some political parties that police encounters were a state policy in Uttar Pradesh. “Encounter has never been the policy of the government”, the top cop said while adding that the police will however take necessary legal action against eve teasers and other criminals who are out to disrupt public peace.
Whenever criminals become so emboldened and try to escape by attacking the police during or after arrest, they are controlled by using necessary force, he clarified. In the last few days, some such incidents took place in which criminals molested daughters and women and when the police arrested them, they also tried to run away and snatch the weapons of the police. Safety of women is one of the top priorities of the government and any thing against such acts will not be tolerated, Kumar added.
He further said that since 2017, the policy of zero tolerance against crime and criminals is being adopted in the state. Women's safety is the priority of the administration. Any such crime will not be tolerated. The accused will be arrested legally and necessary action will be taken against them.
