Priyanka Gandhi Held On Way To Meet Farmers In Lakhimpur Kheri, Congress Says So Was Expected
Lucknow, Oct 4 (TNA) As was feared by many Congressmen, party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was arrested by the Sitapur police in the wee hours of Monday as she was on way to Lakhimpur Kheri where eight persons, including four farmers were killed in protest against minister of state for home Ajay Mishra and deputy CM of UP Keshav Prasad Maurya on Saturday.
The Congress general secretary reached Lucknow late evening and started off for the violence-hit place at night but was placed under house arrest. She however stood her ground and walked for a little bit and then sat in the car and drove off for Lakhimpur but was arrested in Hargaon and taken to a guest house.
Youth Congress president BV Srinivas tweeted the information about her arrest along with a video where a police car can be seen. Many other leaders, including SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, RLD president Jayant Chowdhary and former UP minister and SBSP president Om Prakash Rajhbar, BKU leader Rakesh Tiakit are likely to reach Lakhimpur Kheri today.
