Samajwadi Party MLC Caught With Rs 40 Lakh In Cash In Prayagraj

Prayagraj, June 29 (TNA) A Samajwadi Party (SP) lawmaker Dr Man Singh was arrested in Prayagraj on Tuesday with a whopping Rs 40 lakh in cash, police said. He is an MLC from the graduate constituency of Allahabad-Jhansi constituency.

He was raided by the police on a tip-off at an eatery under the Meja Police station, where he was present with some associates. When the police checked his vehicle, Rs 40 lakh were found in cash.

Income tax department and police re now probing the origin of the large amount of money after the MLC failed to give any satisfactory answer to queries about the source of the large cash amount.

It is believed that such a huge amount of cash was being taken to influence the Panchayat head polls that are due on July 3.

Trans-yamuna SP Saurabh Dixit informed that the lawmaker has not been able to provide any credible answers to the posers on the source and use of the money. It has been confiscated and prima facie it appears that it was being taken for "undue influence" in the Panchayat head elections.
