Swami Prasad Maurya Quits Samaj Party, Also Resigns As MLC
Lucknow, February 20 (TNA) In a big political development, Samajwadi Party (SP) leader and former UP minister Swami Prasad Maurya on Tuesday quit the party. He also quit his membership of the Legislative Council.
He said that he took the step after party chief Akhilesh Yadav failed to take any initiative on the issues flagged by him when he resigned from the party post of general secretary a few days back.
He had raised issues like ignoring the backwards and also the failure of the party leadership to rein in small party cadres who kept criticising him. In a letter to the chairman of the Vidhan Parishad, he informed him that as he had resigned from the SP’s primary membership, on moral grounds he was also quitting the upper House of the Uttar Pradesh State Assembly.
