Ten Kids Die As Fire Breaks Out At NICU In Jhansi Medical College

Lucknow, November 16 (TNA) In a heart-wrenching incident, at least ten children were killed in a fire that broke out at a hospital in Jhansi late on Friday. evening. Authorities fear that the casualties may go up. The tragedy took place in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) of the Maharani Laxmibai Medical College.

Television footage showed doctors and medical staff evacuating patients by breaking the ward’s smoke-filled windows before fire brigade officials reached the spot. Avinash Kumar, district magistrate of Jhansi, told media persons that the fire broke out at around 10:35 p.m.

Thirty-seven children have been safely rescued. The fire broke out in one of the two units of the children's ward, possibly due to a short circuit. The children in the outer part of the NICU were rescued, along with some of those in the interior part.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has condoled the loss of lives and has ordered a probe into the incident. Senior health officials led by Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak, who also holds the charge of the Health department have since rushed to Jhansi.
