UP ATS Arrests Man Who Spied For Pakistan’s ISI, Supplied Sensitive Info Through WhatsApp

Lucknow, Sep 27 (TNA) The UP ATS has arrested an agent who was spying for Pakistani intelligence agency ISI from Lucknow. He had given information about the Indian Army through WhatsApp. The Kasganj-based spy Shailesh Kumar alias Shailendra Singh Chauhan, who gave confidential information related to the army to Pakistani intelligence agency ISI, was arrested by UP ATS on Monday.

Shailesh, who claimed to be an army man on social media, was lured by ISI through a honey trap, after which he started sending information about important military establishments and movement of army vehicles in lieu of money. A case has been registered against him in ATS police station.

Special DG Law, Order and Crime Prashant Kumar informed that Shailesh had worked as a porter in the Indian Army for about eight months in Arunachal Pradesh. He currently does not hold any post in the Army, though he claims to be serving in the Army in his profile. He created a profile on the social media platform in the name of Shailesh Chauhan, in the photo of which he is seen in army uniform. He came in contact with an ID named Harleen Kaur through Facebook, after which both of them started talking on messenger.

Similarly, another ISI handler also started talking to Preeti through audio call on WhatsApp. First there were intimate talks between Shailesh and Preeti, later Preeti told him that she works for ISI. If he gives information related to the army, he will be given a good amount in return.

In the greed for money, Shailesh sent Preeti the photos of the location of important establishments related to the army and the movement of army vehicles. In return for this, two thousand rupees were received on Shailesh's phone-pay in the month of April. After this, he started sending information continuously, in return for which he was given money.

ADG ATS Mohit Aggarwal said that Shailesh was called to ATS headquarters on Monday after getting strong evidence of spying for ISI. During interrogation, his allegations were found to be true and he was arrested.

After presenting him in court, efforts are being made to take him on remand. He told that Harleen and Preeti are ISI handlers. She collects information related to the army from across the border using pseudonyms so that it can be used to create instability in India.
