Lucknow, Nov 11 (TNA) Dr. Kafeel Khan, an accused in the death of several children due to lack of oxygen in Gorakhpur's BRD Medical College in 2017, has been dismissed from services. The action was taken after the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) approved his dismissal.

The Medical Education Department on Wednesday issued the order of his dismissal.

Principal Secretary, Medical Education, Alok Kumar said that Dr. Kafeel Khan has been sacked after being found guilty in the investigation. Dr. Kafeel, who is still under suspension, was attached to the office of Director General Medical Education (DGME). On the other hand, Dr. Kafeel Khan said that he will challenge this order in the court.

Several children died in Gorakhpur's BRD Medical College in August 2017 due to lack of oxygen. After this, on August 22, Dr. Kafeel Khan was suspended and a committee was constituted for the investigation.

Dr. Kafeel Khan, who has been suspended for four years, challenged the matter in the High Court. Questions were raised on the High Court ordering a re-investigation in this case after 11 months and the government withdrew the orders for re-investigation on February 24, 2020.

The High Court had said that in view of the order dated July 29, 2021, the proceedings can be started afresh. The court was assured by the government that it would complete the investigation in three months.
