UP Government Giving Big Boost To Handloom Weavers Of The State
Lucknow, August 23 (TNA) To encourage handloom weavers, the state government is offering monthly scholarships to inter pass students pursuing weaving-related courses. With this, various welfare schemes have also been implemented to strengthen the weavers and to promote handloom as a symbol of cultural heritage, an official said.
A total of Rs 500 per month as scholarship is being provided to the students pursuing their intermediate education in spinning and weaving-related courses. In addition, a grant of Rs 5 lakh per college is being given for the purchase of new handlooms, purchase of various handloom equipment (jacquard handloom, raw materials, yarn, dyes and chemicals) to train the students of such colleges.
It is worth mentioning that the handloom industry is regaining its old glory due to the sustained efforts of the government aimed at encouraging the handloom weavers. Under the Yogi government, Uttar Pradesh has done the work of promoting the handloom sector not only nationally but also internationally through excellent and state-of-the-art technology.
Giving a boost to the vision of a self-reliant UP, the government is giving an honorarium of Rs 1000 per month for two years to the assistants of the weavers engaged in weaving, dyeing, and spinning. In addition, scholarships of Rs 500, Rs 550 and Rs 600 per month are also being given to the first, second and third year students pursuing diploma courses at Indian Institute of Handloom Industry (IIHT) Varanasi.
With this, grants for marriage of daughters of handloom weavers are also being given. For handloom weavers living below poverty line (BPL) a total of Rs 30,000 per daughter is given.
