UP Governor Flags Off Mobile Cancer Detection Unit Of KGMU

Lucknow, March 2 (TNA) Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel on Friday flagged off the 'Mobile Cancer Detection Unit' of King George's Medical University from Raj Bhavan. Capable of detecting all types of cancer at an early stage, this unit is funded by the CSR fund of Bharat Electronics Limited and has been designed by C-DEC.

Speaking on this occasion, the Governor praised KGMU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sonia Nityanand and said that it was due to her efforts that information about cervical cancer in women and the vaccine to be administered to girls for its prevention has become a buzz. Implementing this for the first time, she got all the girls of Raj Bhavan vaccinated at the Raj Bhavan's expense.

The Governor said that an account has been created at Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences for vaccination to help prevent cancer in women, in which vaccination of girls was also done with the donations received. He said that it is very important to spend on vaccination instead of any other expenditure.

Describing women's health as a social responsibility, the Governor said that the results of the arrangements being made will be known in ten to fifteen years. Cancer can be detected only through examination.

Sonia Nityanand expressed her gratitude to the Governor for inaugurating the mobile unit. Giving information about the facilities of the unit, she said that it includes an electronic medical record system and dashboard. In this, expert advice can be taken through telemedicine and teleconsultation.

Giving more information about the facilities, she said that this includes digital measurement of tumour markers, assessment of body immune response and detection of cancer by specific identification of tumour, identification of tumours in breast, abdomen, reproductive organs by ultrasound scan, assessment of heart health by ECG machine, cryotherapy treatment in early cancer, video Colposcope will help in screening and biopsy of cervical cancer.
