Lucknow, February 25 (TNA) The Uttar Pradesh Vidhan Sabha has passed with voice vote, the Uttar Pradesh Laws Against Religious Conversion Prohibition Bill 2021, brought by the Yogi Adityanath to curb what they call was 'Love Jihad'. The bill was passed in the UP Legislative Assembly on Wednesday.

However, it now needs to clear the upper house or in the Legislative Council, where the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is not in majority. After passage in the Legislative Council, it will be sent to governor Anandiben Patel, for signatures and once that is done, it would become a law.

With the approval of Governor Anandiben Patel on November 28, 2020, Uttar Pradesh Law Unlawful Prohibition Prohibition Ordinance-2020 has come into force in Uttar Pradesh. A notification for the implementation of the ordinance was also been issued. It was approved by the Cabinet on 24 November 2020 and the ordinance was sent to Raj Bhavan for approval.

According to the rule, the ordinance has to be approved in both houses of the legislature within six months. Under this, the government on Wednesday passed the bill in the Vidhan Sabha with a voice vote. Now the government will take this bill to the Legislative Council.
