UP Renames Jhansi Railway Station To Veerangana Laxmibai Railway Station

Lucknow, December 29 (TNA) Continuing with its spree of changing names of cities and railway stations, the Uttar Pradesh government late on Wednesday renamed the Jhansi railway station as Veerangana Laxmibai railway station. The renaming of the busy station was announced by the Yogi Adityanath government after it got an approval by the union government.

A Government Order (GO) has also been issued with regards to this, an official said. Now the station code also would be changed. While the government has claimed that the name was changed to enhance the footfalls of tourists in the region, political observers feel this was yet another gamble of the BJP government to woo voters in the Bundelkhand region, in the run up to the crucial state assembly polls early next year.
