Lucknow, May 8 (TNA) The Uttar Pradesh State Electricity Consumers Council has reiterated its demand for reduction in power tariffs. Council President Awadhesh Kumar Verma has said that electricity companies owe Rs 25,133 crore to consumers. In such a situation, instead of increasing the rate of electricity, it should be reduced.

A meeting of the State Advisory Council has been called on Monday regarding the proposed rate of electricity. Power companies have submitted a proposal to increase the rate of electricity from 18 to 27 percent to the commission.

The meeting will be held after the completion of the public hearing by the Electricity Regulatory Commission on the proposed rate. Electricity rates will be discussed in the committee meeting. Uttar Pradesh is among the five states where domestic consumers have the highest electricity rates.
