UP To Build 100 Permanent Flood Shelters In 18 Districts At A Cost Rs 622 Crore

Lucknow, January 8 (TNA) 100 permanent shelters will be built by the Uttar Pradesh government in 18 flood affected districts of West and Purvanchal, an official said. By building a permanent shelter, three thousand people will get timely shelter during floods. The government will spend Rs 622 crore on this project.

Relief Commissioner GS Naveen Kumar said that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had given instructions in a high-level meeting recently to make permanent arrangements for relief in the flood affected districts.

After the survey conducted by the relief department to deal with floods, Amroha, Azamgarh, Barabanki, Bijnor, Badaun, Farrukhabad, Gonda, Hardoi, Kannauj, Kasganj, Kheri, Kushinagar, Mau, Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Shahjahanpur, Sitapur and Unnao have been identified as severely flood prone districts.

All these districts are annually affected by extreme floods. More than two lakh people of 702 villages in these districts are affected by floods every year. In the first phase, permanent flood shelters will be built at 10 places, in the second and third phase at 45-45 sensitive sites and in the rest in the third phase.
