Varun Gandhi Writes To Yogi, Seeks Further Hike In Support Price For Sugar Cane
Lucknow/New Delhi, Sep 27 (TNA) A day after Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath announced a hike of Rs 25 per quintal in the support price for sugarcane in the state, BJP MP from Pilibhit Varun Gandhi shot off a letter to him asking him for more.
While thanking the saffron-robed chief minister for the initial increase, he has sought further increase in the sugarcane price. Gandhi said it should now be fixed at Rs 400 per quintal. In a tweet he said the CM should give a bonus of Rs 50 per quintal other than the announce price.
Adityanath on Sunday had announced a hike in the support price for cane from Rs 325 to Rs 350 and RS 340 for the one that was Rs 315. The move was being seen as a reaching out effort by the BJP government to farmers ahead of the 2022 state assembly polls.
BJP is said to have drawn the ire of the cane growers, specially in western UP, something which could cost it dear electorally.
Opposition leaders are claiming that the ruling BJP is split on the farmers outreach's with many lawmakers fearing that they might have lost both the vote and goodwill of the farmers in the state.
