Veteran SP leader Mohd Azam Khan Unwell In Prison, Lawyer Seeks Early Hearing Of Bail Plea

Rampur, December 5 (TNA) Jailed former UP minister and veteran Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Mohd Azam Khan is unwell, his lawyer has informed the court in an application, hearing on which is now scheduled for December 7. Khan is currently lodged in Sitapur district jail.

An application informing the court about his illness was given during the hearing of the appeal filed against the seven-year sentence. The in-charge MP-MLA court has fixed December 7 for the hearing of this case.

SP leader Azam Khan, his wife and son Abdullah Azam Khan were sentenced to seven years' imprisonment each by the MP-MLA Magistrate Court on October 18 in the case of Abdullah having two birth certificates. Now all three have approached the sessions court against this punishment. The appeal of all three is pending in the court these days.

While Mohd Azam Khan is incarcerated in Sitapur, his wife is in Rampur and son is lodged in Hardoi prison. The appeal and bail of all three were heard on Monday. During the hearing, an application was given in the court by Azam's advocate Zubair Ahmed, in which it was said that Azam Khan is ill. He has problems with sugar, high blood pressure and back pain and it was pleaded that his bail plea should be heard soon.

BJP MLA Akash Saxena had filed a case in Ganj police station in 2019 against former MLA Abdullah Azam, son of senior SP leader Azam Khan, for having two birth certificates. In which SP leader Azam Khan and his wife Dr. Tajin Fatma were also made accused.

On October 18, MP-MLA Magistrate Court Shobhit Bansal, after hearing the arguments of both the parties, sentenced Abdullah Azam, Azam Khan and Tajin Fatma to seven years of imprisonment each and to pay a fine of Rs 50 thousand on all three.
