Voting Begins In Fourth Phase Of Uttar Pradesh Elections
Lucknow, February 23 (TNA) Voting in the fourth phase of Uttar Pradesh began at 7 am on Wednesday. Polling is being held on 59 seats in nine districts, including state capital Lucknow. Voting started at 7 am and will go on till 6 pm. Polling parties reached the booths on Tuesday evening itself.
860 company paramilitary forces have been deployed for fair and peaceful polling. Apart from Lucknow, voting is being held in Pilibhit, Kheri, Sitapur, Hardoi, Unnao, Rae Bareli, Banda and Fatehpur.
Prominent people whose fate will be locked in EVMs in this phase include minister and BJP candidate Ashutosh Tandon from Lucknow East, Brijesh Pathak, minister and BJP candidate from Lucknow Cantt, Gomti Yadav of SP from Bakshi Ka Talab seat of Lucknow.
Former minister Abhishek Mishra of SP is contesting from Sarojininagar, Ravidas Mehrotra of SP from Lucknow Central, Nitin Agarwal of BJP from Hardoi Sadar, Mahendra Kumar Singh of SP from Sevata of Sitapur etc.
According to State Chief Electoral Officer Ajay Kumar Shukla, a total of 55.31 per cent voter turnout was recorded in these nine districts in the 2017 assembly elections, while 58.24 per cent votes were cast in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
