Yogi Calls For A Strong Semiconductor Manufacturing Ecosystem In Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow, January 18 (TNA) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday viewed a presentation based on the state's proposed Semiconductor Policy-2024 at a high-level meeting convened at his official residence here and gave necessary guidelines to the officials.

The Chief Minister said that semiconductor manufacturing is important for modern progress in industries, expansion of efficiency in smartphones, computers and medical equipment etc. It also promotes innovation in Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things and Quantum Computing. “It is necessary to establish a strong semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem in Uttar Pradesh. This is necessary to promote economic growth and innovation of the state, generate adequate employment opportunities and increase the self-reliance of the country and the state in areas of strategic importance” he pointed out.

Yogi said that youth should be given training in semi-conductor manufacturing in all the technical institutes including the two IITs present in the state. Besides, arrangements should be made for two years of training to the youth under the CM Internship Program in semi-conductor industries. The Chief Minister said that with focus on chip design enterprises and startups, a supportive fabless ecosystem should be developed within the state. Strong relationships should be established between industry and academia to create a pool of skilled talent.

The semi-conductor chip sector has announced to invest more than 500 billion dollars in the last 2 years and various reputed companies have announced the setting up of fab units. The Chief Minister said that to attract investment in the semi-conductor sector, the Government of India has decided to provide an incentive outlay of 10 billion US dollars.
