Auditorium Hall Dedicated To Group Captain Varun Singh At Wellington Service Staff College
Lucknow, January 18 (TNA) In a memorable gesture by the Indian Armed Forces, befitting the braveheart, an auditorium hall was dedicated to the memory of late Group Captain Varun Singh, by his wife Geetanjali Singh, on Tuesday at the defence Service Staff College, Wellington in Tamil Nadu.
Singh was killed in the chopper crash on December 8 last year in which CDS Bipin Rawat, his wife and 12 others died. Varun Singh suffered critical burn injuries in the mishap and was the lone suvivor. He succumbed to his injuries one week later in Bengaluru.
He hailed from Deoria district of Uttar Pradesh. The plaque installed at the auditorium says: Gp Captain Varun Singh, Shaurya Chakra was posted as directing staff in the Air Wing w.e.f May 2021. He was the protocol officer during CDS Gen Bipin Rawat’s visit to DSSC.
A qualified flying instructor and an experimental test pilot and had 2240 hours of flying experience of nine different aircrafts including MIG21 to LCA. In 2019 he was shortlisted for the ‘Gangayan’ project and was awarded the Shaurya Chakra on August 15, 2021 for his exemplary courage and composure while facing a life-threatening situation and safely recovering his aircraft.
