Boat With More Than 1,500 Kilos Of Cocaine Intercepted In Gran Canaria
Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, January 8 (TNA) Agents of the National Police and Guardia Civil in the framework of a joint operation have seized more than 1,500 kilos of cocaine in waters close to the coast of Gran Canaria by intercepting a semi-rigid boat and arresting the three crew members of the vessel.
As a result of the joint monitoring and surveillance and thanks to the information provided by the Directorate General of Surveillance over the Moroccan Territory (DGST), in the early hours of 12 January 2024, it was detected that an inflatable boat could be planning to access the coast of Gran Canaria near the coast of Arinaga. This is when the Guardia Civil Río Órbigo patrol boat detected the aforementioned vessel, initiating a pursuit and proceeding to its detention and boarding.
After the boarding, the three crew members of the boat were arrested and 1,564.5 kilograms of cocaine were seized, which were being transported in 64 packages. The 64 bundles of cocaine and the detainees were taken to Puerto de la Luz in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, where they were unloaded and the drugs were weighed, totalling 1,564.5 kilograms, and subsequently taken to the Las Palmas Command for safekeeping.
The investigation of the proceedings and the detainees were handed over to the Telde Duty Court, and prison was ordered for the three detainees. This action is part of the police efforts of both bodies and the good relations with the Directorate General of Surveillance over Moroccan Territory (DGST) for the preventive control of drug trafficking activity.
