Iraq Reaffirms Its Firm Position In Support Of Morocco’s Territorial Integrity
Baghdad, January 29 (TNA) Moroccan foreign minister Nasser Bourita had talks on Saturday in Baghdad with his Iraqi counterpart, Fouad Hussein, on regional issues, as well as on ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in various areas. On this occasion, Iraq reiterated its firm position in support of Morocco's territorial integrity.
"I reiterate Iraq's constant position on the issue of the Moroccan Sahara and its support for the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco," said Iraqi Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein at a joint press conference with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans living abroad, Nasser Bourita, held at the end of their talks in Baghdad.
During the talks between the Moroccan and Iraqi foreign ministers, Nasser Bourita and Fouad Hussein, respectively, the two countries reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations in various areas. The ministers discussed regional issues and ways to enhance cooperation in areas such as trade and economic cooperation, as well as political and diplomatic relations.
Overall, the talks between the Moroccan and Iraqi foreign ministers demonstrate the countries' desire to further strengthen their diplomatic and economic ties and work together on important regional issues.
In addition to regional issues, the ministers also discussed the ongoing conflict over Western Sahara, with Iraq reiterating its support for Morocco's territorial integrity. Iraq's foreign minister, Fouad Hussein, stated that his country supports United Nations efforts to find a resolution to the conflict and emphasized the importance of peaceful negotiations to resolve the dispute while preserving Morocco's territorial integrity and ensuring security and stability in the Maghreb region.
To further strengthen bilateral relations, the ministers signed memorandums of understanding on the creation of a mechanism for political consultation and in the field of diplomatic training. The memorandum on political consultation aims to hold regular discussions and consultations at the ministerial level, as well as at the level of senior officials, in order to discuss all aspects of bilateral relations and exchange views on regional issues of common interest.
The memorandum on diplomatic training aims to establish and strengthen cooperation in the fields of diplomatic, academic and practical training, for the benefit of officials of both countries, as well as to establish a framework for cooperation in the areas of information exchange, research activities, training programs, as well as documents, studies and experiences.
