Uruguayan Government ‘Freezes’ Relations With SADR

Rabat, Dec 15 (TNA) The rapprochement between Rabat and Montevideo is taking shape. The Uruguayan government is in the process of withdrawing its recognition of the SADR. "The government freezes the link with the Sahrawi Republic and takes measures to deepen relations with Morocco", a headline this Wednesday in the Uruguayan daily El Observador said.

Indeed, according to the same source, "the government is determined to deepen diplomatic and commercial relations with Morocco, for which it necessarily demands the cancellation or suspension of relations with the SADR".

The media recalls in particular the official visit of Uruguayan senators to Rabat earlier this month, on the sidelines of the Euro-Mediterranean Economic Forum and the Gulf of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean. Jorge Osvaldo Gandini Astesiano, Vice-President of the Senate, who had made the trip had welcomed in this sense "the very promising results for Uruguay", at the end of the "political, economic and commercial" dialogue held in Rabat.
