The US Completes Withdrawal From Afghanistan, Taliban Breaks Into celebration
Kabul, August 31 (TNA) The last soldier of the US military left the violence-hot Afghanistan on Tuesday, the last day of the deadline US had set itself for complete withdrawal from the country, where its boots were for more than two decades.
This also ended a brutal and expensive 20-year war, which has been America's longest. It started and ended with the hardline Taliban in power, despite billions of dollars spent trying to rebuild the conflict-wracked country. The withdrawal was welcomed with fires being shot in teh air as the Taliban declared it freedom and a watershed moment.
Celebratory gunfire rang out in Kabul in the early hours of Tuesday, and elated senior Taliban officials hailed the event as a watershed moment.
The withdrawal came before the end of August 31, the actual deadline set by President Joe Biden. The war by the end of it claimed the lives of more than 2,400 US service members.
