US Expresses Deep Concern Over Reports Of Sexual Violence In Manipur

Washington, July 25 (TNA) The United States has voiced profound concern over the recent reports of sexual violence emerging from Manipur, India. The incident, which took place on May 4, involved the brutal and terrible sexual assault of three Kuki women by a mob of Meitei men, who also paraded them naked. It was only after a video of the incident went viral last week that the local authorities took action, leading to six arrests.

The US State Department spokesperson expressed sympathy for the victims and condemned the heinous act. Manipur has been grappling with ethnic violence since May 3, with around 150 casualties and tens of thousands of people displaced.

Earlier, US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti had offered assistance to India in dealing with the ongoing violence if requested. He emphasized that the US's concern is not just strategic but also rooted in a genuine human concern for the wellbeing of individuals affected by the violence. Garcetti stressed that peace is crucial for fostering progress and prosperity in the region.

The situation in strife-torn Manipur highlights the urgent need for measures to address violence and create a peaceful environment. The international community, including the United States, is closely monitoring the developments and is prepared to support efforts to restore peace and stability in the region.
